What is microfibre cleaning?

What is microfibre cleaning?

We were first introduced to microfibre cleaning when training with Diversey Johnson.

Microfibre is a synthetic fabric many times smaller than human hair. The gap between fibres is so tiny it creates a static charge that attracts dry soil and dust.

The real magic happens when used damp. Capillary action is when liquid moves through narrow spaces without or against the assistance of external forces. Damp microfibre creates a suction net that draws up bacteria and traps it deep in the cloth. Rather than pushing bacteria around, microfibre traps bacteria more effectively than traditional cloths, when used correctly.

Microfibre cloths can be boil washed, which releases and kills trapped bacteria. Unfortunately this releases microplastics into the water. However find out how we combat this and continue to make our service environmentally friendly by reading our What is green cleaning? article.

Microfibre has become the cleaning method of choice for many supermarkets and restaurants. When swabs were independently tested (at 3 labs!) microfibre cloths were 3 times more effective at collecting bacteria than traditional cloths.

Of course, any tool or product is only as good as the user. Find out how we train our cleaners, and what we do if a cleaner doesn’t deliver, by reading How do we train our cleaning operatives?
