How much does office cleaning cost?

Have you heard the one about a piece of string? The cost all depends on what’s involved. Read on for a deep-dive into pricing.

For what’s included in our service check out the post 'What does office cleaning involve' and for our pricing see 'Core Services Pricing'.

If price is your number one concern you don’t need to read the rest of this article.
Hop onto Facebook, join a local group, request a quote and you will receive a flood of messages ranging in price from £6.00 to £8.00 an hour. Once you hire them, and fire them a few weeks later, come back and read this article: what to consider when choosing a cleaning service.

For those of you who know what’s best for your business:

An overview of:
  • Cost per hour
  • Cost per square foot
  • Cost per session

Cost per hour

Most cleaning professionals have a minimum cost per visit. For hourly rate cleaners the minimum is usually 2 hours, even if a site clean takes less time.

The price can range from £12.50--£20.00 per hour. The variance is often because of the type of cleaning needed and whether consumables and chemicals are supplied. If your workplace has very basic cleaning requirements you may be able to negotiate a lower rate.

Cost per square foot

Per square foot pricing is normally used by larger cleaning corporations who are certified by the British Institute of Cleaning Science or similar. If you'd like to learn more about this see our article 'What are accreditation certificates?'.

This takes into account each area type (washroom/office/corridor) and it’s percentage of the building in square feet. Average industry productivity rates are used to estimate cleaning times. Some productivity rates are lower because the area is more complex to clean, such as washroom facilities.

The price usually works outs to a few pence per square foot. For example a 5000 foot space at £0.15 per square foot would cost £750 each day. This is a low cost example. There can be huge variances in cost per square foot depending on chemicals, machinery, and number of operatives.

This type of pricing is typically used for national chains like supermarkets, or any large sites serviced daily by teams of operatives. It can be used for small to medium sites but is usually more beneficial if the facilities manager is already familiar with this method of costing.

Cost per session

This is the method used by Core Services.

Each site has a different set of requirements so we build our service from scratch.

Our costs include the usual business overheads and whatever else the business owner would like us to provide. The latter is the area that varies the most. This means our clients are not only paying for cleaning labour time, but a range of other services too. For our detailed pricing guide see our post 'Core Services Pricing'.

Our minimum spend for one stand alone session is £29.99. Sites with more sessions each week tend to get more from the service.

We can give an estimated price range if you use our SERVICE BUILDER, but our quote is never finalised until after a site visit.

How can I keep my workplace safe from the mutated corona virus? The mutated corona virus is far more contagious than the previous strain. To protect your workplace double down on your existing safety measures. Here’s what we are recommending to our manufacturing clients: Split your workplace into zones such as: • Shop floor • Office spaces • Kitchens • Toilets • Warehouse/storage Whenever moving into a different zone carry out these hygiene measures: • Wear a mask • Maintaining social distancing • Wash hands or change gloves Between each zone? Yes, between each zone. Even if it’s only a few feet from the shop floor to the office? Yes! To really keep your staff safe use cleaning products designed to attack enveloped viruses. And make sure your cleaning operatives are touchpoint cleaning trained. Our operatives have always been touchpoint trained since Core Services began in 2015.
